Local Foods Summit Generates Ideas and Energy

Over two days, 59 people convened to build a better food system in Lincoln Park. On the first day, we had a terrific tour of local sites like the Deep Winter Greenhouse at the Denfeld Food Forest.

On the second day, we delved into planning and conversation. Participants were farmers and business people, city officials and students, and many more.

Land use planning, local food production, and equitable access to healthy food were high on everyone’s list of priorities. A substantial list of action items is now being refined by the steering committee. Already an energetic group is at work creating new food options centered around Lincoln Park Middle School. The farmers’ market staff is exploring new ways to reach out to the community. Larger creative projects are on the horizon.
