Making Sure Your Home Is Properly Insulated For The Winter

Most people know they have insulation in their homes, but do you know if you have enough? Proper insulation is key to keeping your home warm all winter long, but also can help keep you cool in the summer. Insulation is measured by its R-value, how resistive it is to heat transfer, so a higher level of R-value equals a warmer home in the winter. In northern climates, like we have here in Duluth, it is recommended to have 16-18 inches of R-49 insulation in your attic alone. We find that a lot of the houses in the Duluth area do not have adequate insulation, so what can you do?

The first place to start is to take note of the insulation levels around your home, and see where you might have problem areas. Once identified there are many different types of insulation to choose from, from fiberglass batts to blown in insulation.
