The wait is almost over. LNPK Grocery will have a soft opening on Monday, November 9! Thank you for your patience as we worked through opening delays. Between permitting, licensing, and technical issues, it hasn’t been an easy road. We are experiencing one last hurdle as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has again delayed approving our application to accept SNAP. For those of you who have visited the store, you know we postponed opening because SNAP and WIC access are essential for Lincoln Park residents and central to our commitment to the neighborhood. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of SNAP authorization; however, we can no longer delay opening the store with an uncertain federal timeline and response. Our goal is to be a seven-day-a-week grocery store filling the critical food access gap in Lincoln Park
The mission of LNPK Grocery is to improve food access by providing fresh and healthy foods at an accessible and convenient location. Located at 2014 W Superior St, LNPK Grocery is a direct response from Ecolibrium3 to years of community members’ advocacy for walkable, reliable food access within a walkable distance.
For people without access to a vehicle, a trip to the grocery store means taking multiple buses and being limited to only what can be carried. For the 40 percent of folks in Lincoln Park without a car, this is a significant obstacle to their daily lives that impacts their health and well-being. Health disparities in the neighborhood add to the difficulties of traveling to buy healthy and accessible food, as 27 percent of those ages 18-64 living in Lincoln Park have a disability. LNPK Grocery is our response to that.
LNPK Grocery carries a variety of staple items for customers’ weekly grocery shopping needs. Items include fresh produce, meat, dairy, breads, and grains, along with household items, baby food, and to-go sandwiches. Additionally, the store stocks pet food, kitchen utensils and tools, hygiene products, and over-the-counter medications.
LNPK Grocery’s mission goes beyond providing food access; it is committed to promoting the understanding and consumption of quality, nutritious foods. LNPK Grocery aims to help our neighbors make healthy choices while shopping, and looks forward to expanding food education and wellness opportunities in the future. By shopping at LNPK Grocery, our supporters are not just feeding themselves whole, healthy foods, but helping a community resource stay open and accessible for everyone.
