September 11th 2019 AmeriCorps VISTA National Day of Service and Remembrance

AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers work in community garden

In honor of National Day of Service, the Ecolibrium3 AmeriCorps VISTA members volunteered with the Duluth Community Garden Program at their Riverside location. The volunteers cut back and tarped overgrown and abandoned plot, constructed a shed, and harvested produce to donate to CHUM. Greater access to local food and fresh produce is so important for our city.

In 2002, family members who lost service members in the 9/11 attacks sought to establish an appropriate and fitting tribute to honor their loved ones. Their mission resulted in the legislative establishment of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance where people are encouraged to engage in community service activities across the United States.

The AmeriCorps VISTA program was created to help organizations fighting poverty build the capacity to do more, reach farther, and build better connections in their communities. Every year on September 11th all VISTA volunteers across the US spend a day in service to their community with direct service. Neighbors helping neighbors can make our country stronger and better for decades to come.
