Winter Is Better When We Come Together

There’s no denying that winter in Duluth is beautiful, but as temperatures drop and snow piles up, it can also create challenges for residents in our community.

While the City of Duluth is responsible for clearing more than 400 miles of roads and public routes to keep our city safe, accessible, and connected, effective sidewalk snow removal requires all of us coming together to ensure everyone can get to their bus stops, grocery stores, doctor appointments, jobs, schools, businesses, and stay connected to each other.

Accessible, walkable communities year-round is a key focus of Duluth Age-Friendly to ensure our built environment supports health, mobility, and social connection across the lifespan. Ecolibrium3 is a co-lead of the Duluth Age-Friendly Initiative, working alongside community partners to address barriers that limit independence and participation—especially during our long winters. Clear, safe sidewalks help ensure older adults and people of all abilities can continue to engage fully in community life.

That’s why we’re proud to support Be MinneSNOWta NICE, a movement born from the City of Duluth Commission on Disabilities and transitioned to an independent group in 2022 to make Duluth a better place to live by encouraging neighbors to help neighbors with snow removal.

Whether you’re a volunteer, business owner, or plow driver helping with snow removal this season, we’re grateful for everyone who is doing their part to inspire and lead change in our community toward a brighter, more equitable, and sustainable future—one clear pathway at a time. Get involved or take the Be MinneSNOWta NICE pledge today!
