In the newly established role of Director of Aging Initiatives, Georgia Lane brings 20+ years of leadership in the aging services sector. As Director of Aging Initiatives, Georgia will guide and strengthen current Duluth Age-Friendly projects and programs.
At the future grocery store site, otherwise known as the old Eco3 office at 2014 W Superior St, we replaced the leaking roof, tore out the old water-stained ceiling, and removed the non-functioning HVAC system.
The goals of the program are to train members to conduct home energy assessments, perform home energy improvements, and complete the much-needed work to improve the efficiency of Duluth’s aging housing stock. Now is the time to join the Energy Training Corps, as energy jobs in Minnesota are booming.
Fall marks the end of another great season at the Eco3 Urban Farm. As the team works to clear fields, compost the last remnants of produce in the ground, and tend to tools before frost settles in and snow follows, we can now appreciate everything the farm crew accomplished this summer.
This fall, with the help of volunteers, the Ecolibrium3 Urban Farm team took steps to address the thorny problem of invasive buckthorn on the farm. Common Buckthorn and Glossy Buckthorn are two plants not native to Northern Minnesota that have traits that allow them to take over ecosystems if left unchecked.
We have been partnering with BikeMN through the E-bike Commuter Assistance Program to host a fleet of e-bikes. It has been a great opportunity for staff to increase ridership and learn more about transportation options for newer riders.

Cold leaks, ice dams, and high energy bills are just a few examples that homeowners face as the weather becomes colder. The Eco3 Energy Team can help residents learn more about their homes and teach ways to save energy and money.
Since our last Legacy House update on installing the kitchen, we have hit another major milestone. When we acquired the house in 2018, the City of Duluth had deemed the house unfit for inhabitants, a.k.a., condemned. The house was vacant and no longer being cared for; the roof had failed, had extensive water damage, and was, in many ways, unsafe
Fall is a busy time of year for our AmeriCorps programs! We recently welcomed a new member, Audrey, to the VISTA Corps and participated in the 9/11 Day of Service.
In July and August, we conducted another Whole Food, Whole You Community Culinary Series. This time around, the class was tailored to teens and their caregivers. We collaborated with the Duluth School Community Collaborative, which recruited teens from Denfield High School and Lincoln Park Middle School.
