Shift to Efficient Appliances and Heat

A great way to be more efficient around the home is to take a look at your current appliances and how your home is heated. If you are using older appliances (refrigerator, washing machine, water heater, etc.) in your home you run the risk of spending more than you realize on day to day activities. Buying newer appliances that are more efficient and are ENERGYSTAR rated can pay for themselves in under 10 years time.

Every appliance has their optimal zone of operation and it doesn’t take much to know them. For example refrigerators stop being effective after temperatures of 55-60 degrees, and setting the fridge 10 degrees colder or the freezer 5 degrees colder, you could be using upto 25% more energy.
