Ask City Leaders to Fund Climate Action

When the City of Duluth passed its climate emergency resolution in April 2021, it was charged with developing a Climate Action Work Plan that would identify strategies for decreasing city and community-wide greenhouse gas emissions and help the community become more resilient to a changing climate.

City of Duluth’s Sustainability Officer Mindy Granley presented the City of Duluth Climate Action Work Plan to the city council on February 14, 2022.

The next step is for the City to prioritize funding the actions in the plan. Click below to send a letter urging city leaders to make climate action central to the City budget. Feel free to modify the letter to share your own climate concerns or which parts of the plan matter most to you.

Dear City Councilor,

As a resident of Duluth who cares about the future of our city and our planet, I am writing today to urge the City of Duluth to fund climate action.

I celebrate the City showing climate leadership by passing the climate emergency resolution and developing a Climate Action Work Plan. And, now is the time to put the plan into action by making sure it is a priority in the City budget.

Minnesota is one of the fastest warming states in our country. We are experiencing unprecedented severe storms, drought, and wildfires in our region. Any actions we take now will help prevent multiplying impacts that a changing climate will have on the health and livelihoods of our communities. In order to meet the City’s goals of 80% greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 we need to act now. Please help implement the action items in the Climate Action Work Plan by prioritizing them in the City budget.

Sincerely,

Your Name
