Social Connection as We Age: A Foundation for Age-Friendly Communities

Social connection is a universal human need—we are wired for belonging at every age. Yet, as we age, staying socially connected can become more difficult. Changes in health or mobility, the loss of loved ones, retirement, transportation barriers, and winter weather can all limit opportunities to connect.

Winter Around the Urban Farm

While the farm fields rest during the winter months, our farm crew has stayed busy, preparing for the upcoming growing season. Winter is a critical time for maintaining infrastructure and planning for the upcoming season, and we have been busy building shelves, buying seeds, and completing critical steps to ensure our farm blossoms this growing season.

New Food Corps Positions Available!

We’re happy to officially announce the launch of our third AmeriCorps program at Ecolibrium3! On top of our existing AmeriCorps VISTA and Energy Training Corps programs, we’re adding the Ecolibrium3 Food Corps to help us tackle food insecurity in our region.

Ecolibrium3 is pleased to welcome a new staff member, Bella Pike. Bella, a former Energy Training Corps member, will continue her work at Ecolibrium3 as Program Specialist: Community Partnerships and Program Development.

Eco3 VISTA is an AmeriCorps program where members spend a year building organizational capacity to help eradicate poverty. The Eco3 VISTA Corps takes a holistic approach to this goal, focusing on food access, social connection, and community development.

During AmeriCorps National Days of Service, members have the opportunity to collaborate with other programs to address community needs and build teamwork. Members volunteer within their communities, highlighting the positive difference AmeriCorps groups can make through service across the nation.

AmeriCorps Legacy House: Getting Ready for Rental

Since our last Legacy House update on the City of Duluth removed the house’s condemned status, we just keep truckin’ on. Through continued collaboration with our partners, we have passed our final inspection and received a certificate of occupancy!

Drywall Is Installed at LNPK Grocery!

LNPK Grocery has seen major progress in the last few weeks. We’ve got fresh walls for fresh food, and we are taking steps to make sure everyone is comfortable shopping at LNPK Grocery. Our store’s transformation has been picking up speed: outlets have been mapped, drywall has been hung, and new HVAC systems have been installed!

Winter Is Better When We Come Together

Accessible, walkable communities year-round is a key focus of Duluth Age-Friendly to ensure our built environment supports health, mobility, and social connection across the lifespan. That’s why we’re proud to support Be MinneSNOWta NICE, to make Duluth a better place to live by encouraging neighbors to help neighbors with snow removal.

2025 Year In Review – Making Meaningful Change In Our Community

For fourteen years, Eco3 has been working to strengthen connections, support community-led initiatives, and build resources that make our neighborhood and community stronger. In 2025, we helped build a more connected and thriving community, improved food access, and advanced climate resilience and energy efficiency efforts.
