In early April of 2021, the Duluth City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency in Duluth, making a promise to create a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050. The City Council plans to do this by addressing some of Duluth’s most intense emissions such as energy consumption in buildings, making city utilities more energy efficient, and making low to zero carbon transportation options more accessible, among other things. The Climate Action Work Plan is to be created and delivered to the city council by December 31st, 2021.
