Request Electric School Buses

We can be proud that Duluth became one of the first ten places in the United States to move towards zero-emissions transit in 2018. But, let’s not stop there. We can expand our fleet of zero-emissions to school buses as well.

Electric school buses are the smart choice for our school budget and for the health of our children. Electric school buses will help Duluth meet our carbon reduction goal of reducing the amount of carbon dioxide we generate by 80 percent by 2050. They are also budget smart: with fewer moving parts in the engine, no engine oil changes, and no transmission maintenance electric buses are easier and cheaper to maintain.

Zero emissions also means healthier kids. Children are breathing fresh air—not exhaust. And, electric school buses are quieter than traditional buses, creating a calm environment for our kids going to and from school.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed in 2021 allows the EPA to offer rebates so that schools can replace existing buses with clean, electric vehicles. The rebate application is open until January 10, 2024. Grant awardees can receive up to $345,000 towards EV buses and charging infrastructure.

As new buses are added to our school bus fleet, we can encourage the school board to acquire EV school buses, a choice to support healthy kids for generations to come.
